The Problem with My Sexuality

A gay grandson’s words to his Trump-supporting grandmother

You said that maybe I was “the one who has the problem” with my sexuality and that I’m “assuming the worst in people.”

Well, as long as we live in a nation where one of the two major parties is actively trying to take my rights away, I don’t think I’m the one with the problem.

You said that I kept up with politics and current events because I enjoy them. That is partially true, but I stay informed because I have now realized that I must be involved to ensure that I can one day enjoy the same rights as any of your other grandkids who are straight.

My personal work and prayers are centered on making peace with the fact that I have loved ones in my life who vote against my rights. That's the problem that I struggle with.
